At my family’s Colorado Dude Ranch there are many different activities offered throughout the week to our guests visiting on Colorado dude ranch vacations. One of the most popular and anticipated activities amongst guests certainly is the fly-fishing lesson provided by our professional guide.
Fly-fishing in Colorado is kind of like growing corn in Iowa. It is really a signature of the state. A lot of people in Colorado fly-fish because we have so many outstanding rivers with beautiful trout! When people visit Colorado they want to experience what the state is known for. Also, the movie “A River Runs Through it” with Brad Pitt helped a little too! Since there is a lot of excitement around fly-fishing, we made sure to offer fly-fishing lessons in our weekly dude ranch schedule. We also made sure to hire one of the best and most accredited guides in Colorado!
At our dude ranch, we offer fly-fishing lessons early in the week when riders return from the afternoon horseback rides so none of our guests have to choose between horses and fishing. They can do both! Robert meets everyone on the porch of Frontier Lodge and explains the technique and skill behind fly-fishing. Then everyone heads out to the lawn and puts their new knowledge into practice. It is really neat to watch guests who have never tried fly-fishing in their lives discover that first, they can fly-fish and second, they could really be good at this!
We have seen many guests hit our private stretch of the Tarryall River early in the morning or after horseback riding and catch some great Rainbow and Brown Trout! The excitement of learning to fly-fish and then going out and catching a nice trout is an experience for the photo album for sure!
So grab a rod and let’s head to the river! We will see who can catch the big one first!
PS – please leave us a comment and let us know you stopped by. We would love to hear from you! Have a great day!
